What to Keep in a Basic Home First Aid Kit

A first aid kit works best when it covers common minor injuries and is easy to reach quickly.

A home first aid kit should support everyday needs such as cuts, minor burns, fever, headaches, and small sprains. It does not need to be complicated to be useful.

Cover the essentials

Adhesive bandages, gauze, tape, antiseptic wipes, gloves, tweezers, a thermometer, and basic pain relievers are a strong starting point.

Store items in one visible place

A kit is only useful if people can find it quickly. Keep it somewhere accessible but out of reach of very young children.

Check expiration dates twice a year

Replace expired medicine, used supplies, and damaged packaging so the kit stays ready when it is actually needed.
