Simple Ways to Organize Paper Clutter

Paper builds up quietly, but a small system can stop mail, receipts, and forms from taking over counters.

Paper clutter becomes frustrating because it mixes urgent documents with unimportant scraps. Sorting by action instead of by random pile works much better.

Create three paper categories

Use simple groups such as to do, to file, and to recycle. Every paper that enters the home should land in one of these places quickly.

Process mail right away

Open it near the recycle bin, throw away junk immediately, and only keep papers that need action or records.

Digitize when practical

Scanned receipts, manuals, and statements are easier to search and store than large stacks of paper. Keep only what truly needs a physical copy.
